Forsberg Wins Second Career Wolf Memorial

Chico, CA (Aug 20, 2021) …. One of the all-time greatest sprint car drivers wins one of the all-time best features at Silver Dollar Speedway.  Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, now 45-years-old, claimed his 55th career main event win at Silver Dollar Speedway and his second career Tyler Wolf Memorial triumph.  The 25-lap main event was fast and furious and not for the faint of heart.  Sprint cars had never looked so good as they did on the famed quarter-mile clay oval speedway Friday night.  It had been over six weeks since the last time the speedway hosted a traditional circle track event.

Four divisions featuring over 70 cars lined the pit area to pay tribute to Tyler Wolf.  The winged sprint cars had the most entries with 36.  Forsberg started seventh in the 25-lap main event and once he found his groove he quickly moved to the front.  On the charge was 14th place starter Kyle Hirst.  A former two-time winner of the Wolf, Hirst was aiming to get his third chance to hoist the trophy in victory lane.  Andy Gregg was sensational tonight.  He started fourth, but by lap two he was the leader.  Gregg would go on to lead the next 10 laps until Forsberg got by him.  Gregg then tried to fend off Hirst.  Those two swapped the second spot lap after lap.  On lap 22 Hirst was able to finally secure the second spot.  A yellow on lap 23 allowed Hirst to close in on Forsberg and restart right behind him.  However, Forsberg accelerated to a comfortable lead and won the race with ease.  Hirst was second.  Eleventh place starting Chase Majdic rocketed into the third spot after passing Gregg on the final circuit.  Gregg finished fourth.  Kalib Henry was solid all night.  He raced inside the top five all race long.  It was good to see the Menne Motorsports back in action with Henry driving.  Henry finished in the fifth spot.

Lap money was on the line for the top three of each lap during the sprint car main event.  Gregg was awarded the most with $910, Forsberg $760, Hirst $260, Henry $250, Michael Faccinto $180, Brent Bjork $80, and Majdic $60.  Other money winners included $600 for Billy Wallace who finished 19th in the main and Casey Schmitz who qualified 19th and earned $600.  Forsberg earned a $3,000 payday for the win with $1500 from the track, $500 from Care Free Pools and $1,000 from Mittry Construction.  Forsberg also won $300 for quick time from ManCamp Motorsports and Paul Olmsted Plastering.

Jacob Johnson was electrifying on the track tonight.  He dominated the 20-lap Hobby Stock main event to earn his first career win at Silver Dollar Speedway.  He also won an extra $100 from Paul Olmsted Plastering.  Johnson also won the Pepsi Night trophy that he gets to keep until next years event.  Maurice Merrill did all he could and finished in the second spot.  Zach Lindgren started sixth but by lap two he was in the third spot.  Lindgren raced hard and finished third.  BJ Martin returned to the speedway and finished fourth.  Colin Ferguson rounded out the top five.

Phillip Shelby led all 20-laps to win the IMCA Sport Mod feature.  In the closing laps Tyler Rodgers, who started sixth, closed in on Shelby.  Rodgers dug deep and really ran his car hard the final five laps in hopes of catching Shelby.  As the checkered flag waived, Rodgers got to within .309 seconds of beating Shelby.  Third went to former champion Matt Micheli.  Brian Cooper ran in the fourth spot.  Buddy Olschowka rounded out the top five.

Richard Brace Jr. was so fast in the Street Stock division that the only real question was, could he lap the entire field in 20-laps.  Two of his closest competitors each had mechanical issues.  Jeff Olschowka broke on lap two and Brent Lawrence had a tire go down on lap five.  Brace Jr. did lap all the way up to second spot.  Richard Vander Ploeg was over 13 seconds behind Brace Jr. but finished second.  Third went to Bill Hall.  Gary Newman and Lyle Hopper rounded out the top five.  Brace Jr. has now won the Pepsi Night Trophy two years in a row.  If he wins it next year, he gets to keep it for good and make the track buy a new one.
