Castleberry Wins Crate Sprint Feature at the Fair
CHICO, Calif. May 21, 2026 – Misty Castleberry won the exciting 25-lap Winged Crate Sprint Car main event on Thursday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway. The race took place during the Silver Dollar Fair. Derek Droivold was the dominant car at the start. During the early part of the race, Droivold held a seven second advantage over Castleberry. Scott Kilroy was in the mix all night. At one point he was second until Castleberry passed him just past the halfway point.
With Castleberry now in second, she inherited the lead on lap 16 when Droivold stopped down the middle of the back stretch. During this yellow, Kalob Maher slid to a stop with overheating issues. A red was then displayed to allow the safety crew the ability to attend to Maher. Under the red flag situation, Luke Sprenkel’s No.77 car also overheated and was pushed back to the pit area. Castleberry led the field back to the green flag restart. During the final eight laps she was never challenged and earned the popular win. As she pulled into victory lane Misty was showered with loud applause from the fair crowd. Second spot went to Kilroy. Third was Koady Terry. All three drivers stopped on the front stretch for post-race interviews.
Fourth spot was Jacob Johnson. He started ninth. While that was a good drive, the Malone Concrete Hard Charger award went to fifth place finishing David Derr Jr., who started dead last in 14th spot. Sprenkel was the night’s fast time award winner. His lap time was 13.407. Heat race wins went to Castleberry and Terry.
Todd Cooper returned to victory lane by winning the 15 lap Sport Mod main event. Cooper held off a hard charger Cole Fear to get the win. Fear charged on the final lap to make it exciting. Roles were reversed during the eight-lap heat race when Fear passed Cooper on the final lap to get the win. “It’s always fun racing with Cole,” said Cooper in victory lane. Phillip Shelby drove up to a third-place finish. Shawn Smith rounded out the fourth spot. Thomas Martin finished fifth. The Sport Mod drivers did a wonderful job showcasing their talents at the Silver Dollar Fair.
Noah LaPoint won the 15-lap mini truck main event. The win was extra special for LaPoint who turned 16 years old today. Dan Webster drove a solid race and finished second. Kalvin Kvalvik finished third. Rick Berry and Marvin Benefild rounded out the top five. LaPoint swept the night’s racing action by winning the eight-lap heat race.
