The 71st Gold Cup Begins with a $7,100 Pay Day
CHICO, Calif. Aug 11, 2025 – SLC Promotions will kick off the 71st Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions, presented by NOS Energy Drink, with a major race on Wednesday, August 20th. The event, now called the John and Robbie Padjen Classic in Tribute to Gold Cup and presented by Berco Redwood, features many of the top winged 360 sprint car drivers and offers a $7,100 prize to the winner.
The kickoff race to the Gold Cup honors former Silver Dollar Speedway promoters John and Robbie Padjen, who moved the event from West Capitol Speedway to Chico in 1980. Their decision made the Gold Cup a nationally recognized race. While John often receives credit, Alan Handy notes it was Robbie’s idea to relocate the event, a move that proved successful. Forty-five years later, the tradition continues with another Gold Cup Race of Champions.
The winner of the main event will pocket the $7,100 check and a one-of-a-kind trophy that will be provided by the Padjen family. “We are honored to have our parents name associated with the Gold Cup this year,” said Handy. “Our family is excited to make the trophy and present it to the Wednesday night winner.”
This is a second reminder towards the 360 sprint car teams competing on Wednesday night. Starting with the John and Robbie Padjen Classic and future 360 races at Silver Dollar Speedway, we are fully aligned with the Sprint Car Challenge (SCCT) rules.
The pit gate will open at 2pm for race teams to enter the track. Fans who want to watch from the pit area can also buy pit passes starting at 2pm. The front grandstand gate will open at 4pm.
