Champions Crowned at Silver Dollar Speedway Banquet; Dennis Gage Reveals Plans for 2020 Race Season
By Troy Hennig

CHICO, CA (11-19-19)...The Colusa Casino once again hosted the 2019 awards banquet for the Silver Dollar Speedway and Marysville Raceway. The room was packed with drivers representing nine different divisions between the two tracks.
The night started off with promoter Dennis Gage addressing the room with plans for the 2020 racing season at both tracks. “I know you have heard the rumors of Chico’s demise but those are untrue, stated Gage. “We are hosting more than just 8 weekends of racing next season at Chico. He added, “The only thing that we are a little disappointed in is that the there will be no auto racing events scheduled during the Silver Dollar Fair this year. The fair board see’s value in hosting concerts during the Fair. He went on to say, “I see little schedule changes at either track going forward into next season. Of course, the promoter’s workshop is coming up and there might be some tinkering but except both tracks to have a full schedule of races once again.
Sean Becker collected his 7th driving championship at Silver Dollar Speedway. Yet, it was his first-time being champion since the track switched to a weekly 360 cubic inch sprint car division. Andy Forsberg captured the second spot in points but was the overall champion in the car owner points. Kyle Offill finished third in points and received the coveted David Tarter Rookie of the Year award, presented by Howard and Shelly Tarter.
Matt Micheli won an unprecedented three driving titles between the two tracks. He won the Sport Mod and Street Stock championship at Chico. He also claimed the Super Street Stock title at Marysville. What an amazing accomplishment. His father Ken Micheli, now 81-years old, finished second go Matt in the Street Stock division. Ken was also presented the 2019 Dale Wondergem trophy from Dennis Gage.
Kyle Allen won a second track title in the Hobby Stocks. The Cherokee driver dominated the season winning eight of nine main events ran this season. Zach Lindgren finished fifth in the points and was the only other driver to secure a main event win. That win happened on the final point show of the season. Allen finished a close second.
Michael Ing was the most impressive driver at Marysville Raceway during the 2019. He won the most main events, 6, leading the way to the 360 cubic inch sprint car championship. His father David Ing enjoyed the moment and shared lots of good stories about him being proud of his son.
Brett Youngman won the Crate Sprint championship. Kiely Ricardo finished a close second. The field in loaded with young talent as Cameron Haney Jr. finished third. Both Ricardo and Haney Jr. accepted their trophies.
Todd Cooper and David Peirce teamed up for the 2019 and it was very successful. Cooper won five of the 12-point shows in route to the driving title. Both Cooper and Pierce gave emotional speeches. Cooper won the 2019 IMCA Sport Mod Championship while Pierce won as the car owner. It was nice to have him there as a lot of the Sport Mod drivers and crew members where attending races in Las Vegas.
Jesse Van Roekel won the track championship for the Hobby Stocks. Forty different drivers earned points this season. Van Roekel was the most consistent driver this year. He didn’t get a win but had the most top 10 finishes with eight and won three heat races. Devin Ryan finished second and captured two wins this season and finished just five-points shy of Van Roekel.
The Marysville Swap meet will take place Nov 30th at the Marysville Speedway.
