Dominic Scelzi Garners Podium Finish for Sixth Time This Season

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 8, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi captured a podium finish last Friday to give him at least one top-three result during four of the last five weekends.

Additionally, Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported team have earned at least one top-five finish in five straight weeks and during six of the last eight race weekends.

“Everyone on this team has worked hard to provide fast race cars this season and we’ve been rolling,” he said. “The car was awesome again last Friday.”

Scelzi set quick time during qualifying before he advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw at Silver Dollar Speedway. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the A Main on the outside of the fourth row.

“We were extremely fast,” he said. “It took me 20-some laps to get to second. By the time I got to second Kyle (Hirst) had half a race track on me. I ran him down, but at the end of it he was still half a straightaway in front of me. We did all we could, but had to settle for second.”

“I felt like I had the fastest race car all night,” he said. “Whenever you have a car that good it’s tough to swallow when you don’t win. We just ran out of laps. It’s another great finish and great run, but at the end of the day we want to win these races.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.

“We were the first car out in the second group and set quick time,” he said. “The track still had some grease on it and it ended up getting quite a bit faster.”

Scelzi ended 12th in qualifying before he won a heat race to lock into the 12th starting position for the A Main.

“On Lap 2 I got into the cushion in turns three and four, biked up and went over the edge,” he said. “I went to the back and we came up to around 12th to 14th and did the same thing in turns one and two. It was a frustrating night. It was our worst performance since the World of Outlaws left California last month. We’ve had so much speed, but some nights you just don’t have great results.”

Scelzi exited the race just before the midpoint and he was credited with a 20th-place result.

He will take this weekend off before resuming competition on May 18-19 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., during the Peter Murphy Classic.
