Hirst Continues His Winning Ways

Chico, CA (July 4, 2018) – Paradise sprint car champion Kyle Hirst led all 25-laps to win the winged 360 main event during Wednesday nights Fast Cars and Freedom event at Silver Dollar Speedway. Hirst took advantage of his front row starting spot and dominated the race. Hirst now has 32 career wins at his home track. Hirst was joined in victory lane by his wife Amy and daughter Emma. Over 50 cars entered the pit area during the traditional July 4th event.
The Silver Dollar Speedway was proud to host a packed house of enthusiastic fans who were on site to watch some good old fashion grass roots racing and spectacular post-race fireworks.
An opening lap accident was the only thing that slowed Hirst. Six cars were involved in the turn two wreck. Once racing resumed it was all Hirst. By lap three Mason Moore moved into second. Michael Buddy Kofoid raced into the third spot. Moore and Kofoid battled hard the final 15 laps but neither were able to catch Hirst. Kalib Henry scored a solid fourth place finish. Mitchell Faccinto rode around in the fifth spot most of the night.
Australian Jaime Cobby won the 12-lap B main event. He was followed by Brad Bumgarner. Jake Haulot, Moore and Henry were all victorious during their eight-lap heat race action. Hirst kicked things off by turning the fastest laps in qualifying at an 11.997. A nice turnout of 24 sprint cars attended the July 4th race.
Philip Shelby retuned back to victory lane by winning the 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod main event. Shelby started ninth but by lap eight he was in the lead. It was a thrilling performance by Shelby. Austin Manzella led the first seven laps of the race and held on to finish second. Brian Cooper charged from seventh to third. Tenth place starting Craig Nieman raced hard and finished fourth. Jimmy Ford dropped as low as ninth on the gird but bounced back to finish fifth. The main event was so exciting up front. Numerous battles throughout the field provided a great entertaining race for the fans. Mike Merritt, Ford and Manzella each scored wins during their eight-lap heat races. An awesome turnout of 18 IMCA Sport Mods thrilled the capacity crowd.
Kyle Allen took the lead away from Kyle Cheney on lap 17. It was an electrifying finish for the crowd and the Earl’s Plumbing Hobby Stock drivers put on a great show. Cheney had led from lap two, to lap 16. Cheney did end up finishing second. Jeremy Langenderfer started deep in the field and drove up to a third-place finish. James West started eighth and came home in fourth. Colin Ferguson rounded out the top five. Allen worked his way back up front after suffering a tire issue on lap one. It was impressive to see Allen keep his composure and get the hard-fought win. Allen and Cheney were also the heat race winners.
Clinton Earl was ecstatic in victory lane tonight. Earl hadn’t been there this season and his enthusiasm was contagious. It was a fantastic way to finish the 20-lap street stock feature. Richard Workman led the first lap. Scott Rogers then took the lead for the next two circuits. Corey Hall was the next drive to assume the top spot. Hall began to run away with the event until a ton of smoke began to emerge from inside his wheel well. Some the tire went flat, and Hall came to a stop. Rogers was once again back up front. But the next lap Earl raced to side of Rogers and passed him for the lead. Rogers spun around in turn two and the yellow was needed again. Earl led the final five laps. Yet, he was pressured by Brent Lawrence. The Auburn driver should be commended for his charge to the front. Fritz Zanker finished in the third spot. Gary Newman came home fourth. Rogers came back to finish fifth. Hall and Earl were each victorious in heat race action.
