Cody Lamar Earns First Career Win at Chico

CHICO, CA (4-1-16) - Emotion was high in victory lane Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway as Cody Lamar of Rio Linda won his first career sprint car main event victory at the historic track. Lamar was fresh off his win the previous Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Lamar bested 27 other competitors in the winged 360 division who were on hand for night number one of the Mini Gold Cup. Lamar led all 25 laps to earn the popular victory.

Almost 100 cars lined the pit area tonight. The official car count was at 97 even though a few cars never hit the track because of mechanical issues.

Chasing Lamar all night was Skylar Gee. At times Gee was able to reel in the Lamar but never quite got the chance to challenge for the lead. Sixth place starting Jonathan Allard moved his way up to third. Allard finished less than two-car behind Gee at the checkered flag. Scott Parker earned a fourth place finish while Oregon star Garen Linder was fifth.

Colby Wiesz won the 12 lap semi-feature. Young rising star Tony Gualda ran in the second spot. Cody Smith and Ron Laplant finished third and fourth respectively and transferred to the main event.

Mason Moore grabbed his fourth career fast time award at Chico with a lap of 13.352.

A solid 32 Dwarf cars showed up for the first of two nights of bask to back racing at Chico. Shawn Jones won the 20 lap main event that was marred by a viscous crash involving veteran driver Fred Hay. Early leader Ryan Winter suffered an electrical malfunction coming out of turn two and he dramatically slowed. Cars behind him started to scatter in trying to avoid Winter. Unfortunately this bottled up the field and caused one driver to come down the track while Hay was still at full speed. Hay launched up and over the car sending him high into the air and then violently crashing down onto the track. Hay was roughed up in the accident and it took nearly 20 minutes to get him removed from the car. Hay was alert and talking to safety personnel as he left the track. Scott Dahlgren drove a solid race to finish second. Josh King was good all night and finished third. Kevin Bender raced his way into fourth. The bright yellow #11d of Danny Wagner was fifth. Tom Brown won the 12 lap semi-feature.

A staggering 22 cars showed up for the first IMCA Sport Modified race held at Silver Dollar Speedway. Fred Ryland will go in the history books as the inaugural winner in this division at Chico. Ryland at one point during the main event held over a half lap lead. A late caution closed up the field. Ryland still held over a three second lead when the checkered was displayed. The Cooper boys put on a great show. Todd finished second while Brian was third. Brian started deep in the field and charged his way to the front. The General Jerry Bartlett drove a solid race to finish fourth. Clinton Earl was up front all night and finished fifth.

Terry Schank Jr. continues to win. Schank worked his way to the front and by lap ten was the leader. He went on to win by nearly four seconds over Casey McClain. Barry Pries Jr. finished in the third spot. Angelique Bell continues to impress and finished fourth. Brent Steck drove a solid race to finish fifth.
