2nd Annual David Tarter Memorial This Friday Night

2nd Annual David Tarter Memorial This Friday Night

CHICO, CA (6-3-14) - The best sprint car drivers in California are set to converge at the Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday night, June 6th. The King of the West 410 winged sprint car stars are coming to town and racing in honor of David Tarter. This year marks the second anniversary of the race in honor of Tarter who was a popular local driver that we all sorely miss around the Silver Dollar Speedway. The traveling Dwarf car series will also be on hand this Friday night.

Pit gate opens at 3 pm while the front gate will open at 5 pm. Racing is slated to start around 7 pm. Adult general admission is $20.00, juniors are $15.00 and kids (6-11) are $6.00. Children five and under are free.

Tarter was a dedicated race car driver. Never one to have an abundance of money, Tarter and his family scratched and clawed for everything they could to field a competitive car. David grew up and migrated through the outlaw kart series before moving into winged sprint cars. As Tarter progressed in the winged sprint car division at Silver Dollar Speedway, he began to attract new fans that not only cheered for him to succeed as a driver but also in life. There was one thing that Tarter always had at the race track, a big smile. He knew how thankful he was to be able and race against his peers and spend valuable time with his family and friends at the track. With his combination of winning spirit and his never give up attitude is why we will celebrate his life this Friday night with the 2nd Annual David Tarter Memorial.

Last year's race was a local point show. Roseville's Sean Becker won the 35-lap main event. After the race he was embraced by Michael Tarter who was also racing in the event. This season Michael has stepped away from the driver's seat. Yet, with support from Wilson racing, the Tarter name will once again be said over the loud speaker in qualifying as Michael has secured a one night race deal to run in honor of his fallen brother.

The Tarter family will be selling the new David Tarter Memorial t-shirt, sweatshirt and stickers at the race track. Shelly, David's mom, will set up early at the pit gate and then transfer over to the main grandstands. The family has also offered up a one of a kind racing helmet that was painted with Tarter colors and signed my all the World of Outlaw sprint car drivers, local drivers and important people in David's racing career. That helmet will be raffled off later on this night by the winning sprint car dash winner who will reach into the bag and pull out one lucky name. The money raised will go to support the Racer's benevolent fund and the other half will go to a local children's charity in honor of David.

Tim Grant of Grant Photo Art is supplying three special plaques. The special David Tarter plaque's will individually go to the dash winner, hard charger in main event and feature winner. If you are in need of custom plaque's please call Tim at (209) 217-7766.

A special $100 donation will be given to the 35th fastest sprint car driver in qualifying. The first non-transfer from the B-main event will receive extra cash also. "We wanted to help out the little guys in racing," said Howard Tarter. "We never considered ourselves to be an elite team and I know David would want us to help some of the lesser funded teams that support his race."

The Dwarf cars will make their first appearance of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway. This should have been their second appearance, but bad weather canceled the March 29th event. A strong following of cars and a solid fan base are always expected when the Dwarf cars hit the quarter-mile clay oval.
