Silver Dollar Speedway
Point Race #2 This Friday Night
CHICO, CA (3-31-13) -Â For the third week in a row the sights and sounds of auto racing will spill onto the famed quarter-mile clay oval Silver Dollar Speedway. An ambitious five division schedule will be highlighted by the first point race of the year for the IMCA dirt modified series. It will also mark the first of three winged 360 sprint car races during the Friday night Wells Fargo series. Joining the mix for the first time in 2013 are the Limited Late Models. Returning for their second point race are the mini stocks and street stocks.
Adult general admission is $13.00. Seniors and juniors are $11.00. Children ages 6 to 11 are $6.00. Kids five and under are free. Pit gate will open at 4 pm while the front grandstand gate opens at 6 pm.
Last Friday night saw a record amount of fans in the grandstands for a Friday night race. They enjoyed fast cars and grass roots racing that have been a trademark of the speedway over the last six decades. Families enjoyed a great night of auto racing and helped celebrate the start of Easter weekend. Medford's Roger Crockett, Orland's Jake Vantol, Marysville's Misty Castleberry, Oroville's Ron Laplant and Glenn's Doug Emory each won their respective main events.
Many of the top winged 360 drivers are expected to attend the rare Friday night 360 race. Jake Vantol and Mike Slightom will lead the one-two punch of the street stock division. Misty Castleberry will look to continue her main event winning streak at Chico. It will be interesting to see if the new IMCA sanctioning will attribute to more modifieds. We expect to see the McDaniel's, Oreste Gonella and the return of a rocket man, Mark Abouzeid. Limited Late Model racing is set to continue with a strong contingent from the Micheli family once again. Auburn's Tom Arbogast is also reporting for duty this Friday night. It would be nice to see the General Jerry Bartlett give the quarter-mile speedway another beating in his #00.
