Modified Madness Joins Late Model Showdown at Chico

For the first time this year the pit area will be lined with cars without wings. This Friday night, June 17, the race track will turn into a fender smorgasbord of dirt modifieds, late models, street stocks and hobby stocks. It's time for these divisions to shine. Come out and celebrate Father's Day weekend on Friday night with some NASCAR style fender banging, side-by-side excitement that will rival any other night at the speedway this year.

This race will mark the official beginning of the newly conceived Mini Modified Madness Series. This series will have six races, three at Chico and three at Placerville. It will offer more money to the drivers if 18 modifieds show up. Many of the surrounding area tracks have open dates on this night and promoter Dennis Gage is offering a chance for this division to strut their stuff on our quarter-mile clay oval speedway. "We tried to schedule this Mini Modified Series around when other tracks did not have them on their schedule or had open dates," said Gage. "The hope is to get a large field and allow our locals to showcase their ability against some out of town hot-shoes."

The Dirt Solution Limited Late Model Series returns to Chico after having two previous successful appearances. The division continues to attract larger car counts than last year. Tom Arbogast of Auburn said, "It's been a pleasure to work with Dennis Gage this year and allowing us to race at his facility." Arbogast is the owner of Dirt Solution which not only sponsors the division but the product helps those cars repel mud from sticking to their cars. "Between Chico and Placerville the series has been a big hit and I could not be happier to be involved with the continuing growth of the series."

The Street Stock division has seen an influx of new drivers while one veteran driver continues to lead the way. Chico's Phil Marino is leading the points standing by nearly 20-points over Chico's Kevin Lesch. Both drivers are poised to make a run at the championship this year. Lesch has come into his own this year while driving for Mark Abouzeid. Mike Slightom, Richard Workman and Kevin Ward are three drivers with plenty of experience at Chico and are ready to end up in victory lane.

The Hobby Stocks are coming to town. For the first time in 2011, promoter Dennis Gage has opened up the playing field to allow this new division to come and race at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Chico resident Gene Guinn Jr. is ready for his chance to defend his home turf. "Since the Enduro race during the fair ended a few years ago we haven't had a chance to race at Chico" said Guinn Jr. "Now thanks to Dennis we can come back to our home track and try to put a show on for our fans." Guinn Jr. runs with the West Coast Enduro Series. Those cars are allowed to race with the newly formed Hobby Stock division.

Pit gates will open at 4pm. Front grandstand gate will open at 6pm. Racing is slated to start at 7pm. Adult general admission is $12.00. Juniors and seniors are $10.00 while Children are $6.00. At the previous Thursday night Farmers Market the track handed out numerous $5.00 off Father's Day Friday night racing special.

If drivers or fans have questions please call the track office number at 530-350-7275.
