CHICO, CA (7-20-10) - The warmth of a Chico summer can wear a person out. As the heat continues to rise around Butte County so is the racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway. The next six week stretch will determine the capability of a teams desire to win or, in some cases, lose the track championship. A driver on the rise is Chico's Brett Miller. Coming off his fourth career win in a sprint car last Friday night, Miller now leads the sprint car championship. Miller has made tremendous leaps and bounds the last few weeks to gain the top spot in the title chase. He leads Jason York by four points. Miller and York lead the sprint car charge with the ASCS Midgets and Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout Series into the Feather Falls Casino / Riebes Auto Parts championship this Friday night.

It's only fitting that this Friday night, July 23, it is Care Free Pools and Butte Humane Society night at the speedway. As the temperature rises in Chico there is no better place to cool off than a pool. Brett's grandfather, Bill Bell owner of Care Free Pools, is the authority when is comes to pools in this area and he specializes in amazing waterfalls in relation to the pool he is building. On Wednesday, July 21, Brett Miller turn 21 years-old. The family hopes to celebrate his birthday with another win. On their night, the family is giving away some free coupons to the Cookie Shoppe, Papa Murphy's, Outback Steakhouse and a grand prize along with tee shirts of Brett Miller and Andy Forsberg. Should be another great fun-filled-family night at the speedway. The family is also heavily involved in helping the Butte Humane Society. During the night, drivers will walk through the stands to collect money for the Butte Humane Society.

The Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout Series is set to return this Friday night. It will mark the third race of the year at the speedway. Santa Rosa veteran Terry Schank Jr. leads an all-star cast of wingless warriors heading into Friday's race. This race will mark the series' eighth point race of the year. Schank Jr. has one win and the most top five main event finishes with six. Billy Wallace, second in points, and Ryan Bernal, eighth in points, each share the lead with most main event victories with two apiece. Taylor Simas is tied with Wallace for second. Simas, with mentoring from Jimmy Pettit, is still searching for his first win of the year during the series. Simas has racked up wins during this year but is winless in the series. Timmy Sherman Jr. has been very consistent all season. His three heat races wins and six top ten main event finishes have pushed him into the fourth place in points. Scott Hall is becoming quite the versatile driver. Whether it's a winged sprint car or wingless, Hall will driver anything and his family are usually at the track every weekend with him. There will be a $5000 Bonus Point Fund & the Top 32 that run 6 of the 12 races in the series qualifies for the Wednesday night portion of the Gold Cup - Race of Champions.

Joining in the mix will be the ASCS Midgets of Silver Dollar Speedway. The most recent race for this group was on July 3. Rick Young got his first win of the year. Other winners this year include Travis Haugh, Britton Bock and twice by Dillon Silverman. After tonights event only one more event on August 20 is scheduled. Hopefully the field of ASCS Midgets will continue to increase so they can show the fans their exciting style of open wheel racing.

Front grandstand gate opens at 6 pm. Sprint car qualifying slated to begin at 6:30 with racing to follow. Adult general admission is $12.00, seniors and juniors are $10.00 and children $5.00. For more information about the speedway please visit www.silverdollarspeedway.com
