Golobic Thrills Crowd With Last Lap Pass For Win

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / Silver Dollar Speedway
Golobic Advances 13 Spots to Win Sprint Car Main Event

CHICO, Calif., May 10, 2024…Shane Golobic thrilled the crowd on Friday night with a late race maneuver that even shocked his crew in victory lane. With just two laps to go, Golobic had charged from his 14th starting spot to third. Up front it was 16-year-old Braden Chiaramonte leading the race. Chiaramonte was driving the potent Tiner Hirst Enterprises No. 94th. Chasing him was another youngster, Dylan Bloomfield. Yet, as those two battled, it was the veteran Golobic who got up on the wheel and drove around them both to provide the most exciting finish of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway. It was Golobic’s 16th win of his storied career at Chico. Behind him, Bloomfield overtook Chiaramonte for second. Chiaramonte grabbed the third spot. Tanner Holmes improved two spots to finish fourth. Cole Macedo also improved two spots to finish in the fifth spot. Newcomer Corbin Rueschenberg of Mesa, AZ, drove the second Tiner Hirst Enterprises car, and finished an impressive sixth. Just as equally impressive was rookie driver Austin Wood. He passed four cars and finished seventh. Isaiah Vasquez came home in eighth. Tanner Carrick passed eight cars to finish ninth. Sean Becker moved up two spots to finish tenth.

With 44 sprint cars in attendance, not only a B main was needed, but so was a C Main. Leading all 10 laps with ease during the C main was Ashlyn Rodriguez. Bobby Butler, Wyatt Van Lare and Jayce Steinberg all transferred to the B main. Ryan Rocha led all 12-laps to win the B main. Preston Carr improved three spots to finish second. Brian McGahan Jr. and Seth Standley finished third and fourth and advanced to the A main.

Bloomfield earned the overall fast time award presented by Tiner Hirst Enterprises. His lap time was 11.713 seconds. Cole Macedo, Chiaramonte, Bloomfield and Andy Forsberg each won heat races.

Todd Cooper returned to a familiar spot Friday night, victory lane. He drove his brother’s famed No. 17c. to an exciting win. Chasing him to the checkered was Devin Koranda. Both Cooper and Koranda thrilled the crowd with their expert driving skills during the 20-lap main event. Toby Merrifield battled with friend Kyle Allen for most of the race. Merrifield finished third. Former track champion Allen was fourth. Scott Rogers was the hard charger as he gained 10 spots to finish fifth. Not to be outdone, Bill Patterson improved seven positions to gather a hard fought sixth place finish. Merrifield and Cooper were victorious in their heats. All in all, the Hobby Stock racing was on point tonight. This division features a ton of competitive and passionate dirt track racers.

A competitive group of 13 drivers put on an entertaining 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod race. Chico’s own Tyler Rodgers swept the night’s racing action. He won the eight-lap heat race and was the first car to the checkered flag during the main event. Rodgers led all 20 laps in securing the popular win. Ray Lindeman did well and advanced 5 spots to finish second. Shaun Merritt battled all race long to secure his third-place finish. Scott Savell earned the hard charger accolade by passing five cars and finishing fourth. Paul Stephens rounded out the top five. A four-car pileup during an early race restart collected Mark Garner, Phil Marino, Mike Helwig, and a few others. Jace Wright won the second and final eight lap heat race of the night.

Racing continues this Saturday with the AMA / American Flat Track Silver Dollar Short Track on May 18.

The 410 sprint cars and Hobby Stocks will race on May 26 during the Silver Dollar Fair.
