Brooks Dominates Tyler Wolf Memorial at Silver Dollar
By Ben Deatherage

CHICO, Calif., Aug 26 2023… A packed grandstand at Silver Dollar Speedway witnessed Landon Brooks conquer the field at the Tyler Wolf Memorial. Piloting the Tiner-Hirst Enterprises #94X entry, he led the entire distance of the thirty-lap Western Sprint Tour 360 feature to win his third race of Speedweek Northwest-South.

Eighty-four entries filled the historic Chico, California ¼-mile clay oval pit area, including an incredible fifty 360 Sprints. The Sprints utilized a unique format based on Cycleland Speedway in tribute to the late Lowell Moural Sr., who owned the facility and recently passed away.

After starting in the inside pole position, Brooks occupied the top position on the opening lap. He would be lightning quick in the open racetrack. Three cautions occurred during the feature, which took away heavy lapped traffic for the pacesetter to negotiate. In the Quinn Motorsports #28 car, Chase Johnson briefly overtook Brooks for the top spot only on the fifteenth circuit, only for the caution to come out, and the pass did not count.

The race would have three stoppages and were evenly spread out to allow Brooks to continue to dominate the balance of the distance to achieve his first career victory at Silver Dollar. Matt Wood Racing #17W of Shane Golobic was a respectable second, followed by Johnson. In the Keith Day #22-fieled mount, Ryan Bernal was fourth, followed by Mittry Motorsports #2X of Justin Sanders, in fifth.

Austin Torgerson won the C-Main, while Oregon traveler Johnny Burke won the B-Main. Willie Croft finished first place in the dash but declined his sixth starting position to accept the Tyler Wolf Challenge and started nineteenth instead.
Brooks received the Rich & Kelly Jacobson/Demo Mittry lap nineteen leader awards in honor of Tyler Wolf. By finishing seventeenth, Andy Forsberg received a little bonus money courtesy of Ballantine Bros Racing.

Despite nine cautions, the Hobby Stocks with the West Coast Stock Car Tour, had a great main event. Shawn Barker paced the field early but lost the lead shortly after restarting on lap six to Dan Webster. Webster was challenged several times and beat Scott Rogers by a mere 0.179 seconds at the line.
Roger was second, with Matt Kile being scored third. Fourth was Jay Bryant, with the rest of the top five rounded out by Jason Clayton Jr. Twenty-two Hobby Stocks attended the evening.

Sean Hulsey seized first place in the early goings of the IMCA Northern Sport Mod main event. He would be tracked down and passed on lap nine by Tyler Rogers. Rogers checked out from the rest of the field to win the race but was disqualified in post-race tech. That gave the win to Hunter Merritt.

Mike Merritt was the runner-up. while Rogers was docked two spots to get third. Todd Carlock and Mike Helwig were the balance of the top five finishers. Twelve cars made the trip to the track.

Silver Dollar Speedway will be back in action for the 69th running of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, kicking off on Wednesday, September 6th. For more information on tickets and times, be sure to visit www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
