Hirst is Hungry Like a Wolf

Hirst is Hungry Like a Wolf

CHICO, CA (8-19-16) - It's been a dream like season for Paradise resident Kyle Hirst. Numerous meaningful victories in 2016 have brought Hirst into the spotlight and currently recognized as the top 410 winged sprint car driver in California. Tonight Hirst continued his dominance of important sprint car races in 2016 and won the Fourth Annual Tyler Wolf Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. This season at Chico alone, Hirst has won the Dave Bradway Jr. and the David Tarter Memorials. With the win Hirst now joins Andy Forsberg, Rico Abreu and Jonathan Allard as Tyler Wolf Memorial winners. Not only does Hirst get to display the beautiful 6ft. tall Wolf Trophy at his home for the next 365 days but he also collected over $2500 in purse and extra lap money for the win. "It's great to get this win and park the Finley Farms #77 back in victory lane in Chico," said Hirst. A nice turnout of 22 winged sprint cars attended the race in honor of Tyler Wolf.

Andy Forsberg jumped out to the early lead of the 25-lap main event. Forsberg was a rocket ship and pulled out to a comfortable lead. However, on lap six Forsberg tried to drive to the outside of a slower car that began to push him up and over the back straight ledge. Forsberg could never get all four wheels back on the track and lost numerous positions. Forsberg's misfortune was Chase Majdic's good luck. The crowd erupted as the #19, the car Tyler Wolf raced, took the lead on lap seven. Even though it was short lived, Majdic gave the Wolf family and friends the thrill of a lifetime watching the #19 lead the Wolf event. On the following lap Hirst was able to use a slower car to his advantage and pass Majdic for the lead.

While Hirst went on to lead the majority of the race he still had to work hard for the win. Not only were the slower cars difficult to pass but Majdic was all over Hirst for the lead. Mason Moore should be commended for a strong effort tonight. Moore earned the fast time honors resulting in a $700 bonus from generous sponsors. He was up on the wheel all night and finished third. Sean Becker had a solid point's night and passed couple cars to finish fourth. Bobby McMahan was a pleasant surprise and finished fifth.

Henry, McMahan and Becker each picked up an extra $100 courtesy of A.R.T. Enterprises by winning their eight lap heat races. Withrow's Motorsports added 10 gallons of methanol for the heat race winners. Withrow's also gave Justyn Cox 10 gallons for finishing 10th in the main event. On behalf of everyone associated with the event we want to thank all of the fans who chipped in for the extra money awarded on behalf of Tyler Wolf to the competitors. Seth Nunes was awarded the $200 Hard Luck of the night courtesy of JP's Paint and Body Works after a violent flip in his heat race that sidelined him for the rest of the night.

Ryan McDaniel won his fourth consecutive limited late model championship Friday night. McDaniel now has eight overall track championships at Chico. McDaniel won the championship with style by also winning the main event. Ryan won his third main event of the season and ended up with a 10 point cushion over veteran Ken Micheli. It was great to see Richard Papenhausen back at his home track. Ray Trimble added extra excitement and those three drivers put on a great show.

Wyatt Brown earned the winged economy sprint car track title. Brown needed to win the main event and his heat race to have a chance, and that is exactly what he did. Brown won the championship by just one point over Mike Ficklin. It was an exciting and emotional win for the Brown family who has been very dedicated to local motorsports. Ficklin shouldn't hang his head as he had an awesome year with two wins. Brown will now set his sights on capturing the Marysville title.

Brian Compton got back to his winning ways and captured the Hobby Stocks feature event. Kyle Allen gave Compton a run for his money early on. Allen led the first half of the race until Compton was able to drive by. Allen ended up second. Todd Hemman finished in the third spot. Next Friday, once Compton takes the green flag in the main event he will win his third Hobby Stock track championship.

Phillip Shelby won his fourth main event of the season at Chico during the street stock championship season. Yet, he still trails Shawn Smith by four points heading into the final race of the year next Friday night. Shelby held off a charging Chris Warner until late in the event when Warner's car went up in smoke. Phil Marino started seventh and drove up to a solid second place finish. Fritz Zanker earned a respectable third place finish.

The season finale takes place this Friday night at Chico. For more information or full results please visit http://www.silverdollarspeedway.com/
