Becker Earns 57th Triumph at Chico

CHICO, CA (7-4-16) - Roseville's Sean Becker thrilled the packed house Monday night in route to his 57th career sprint car main event win during Silver Dollar Speedway's annual Fast Cars and Freedom event held on July 4th. While Becker deserves the accolades for the win it was young 17-year-old Michael Ing who led the first 17 laps of the main event and is poised to finally break into the win column soon. Once Becker passed Ing he was gone. In fact, Becker increased his lead to almost three full seconds by the time the race ended on lap 25. Ing held on to finish in the second spot. Seventh starting Andy Forsberg charged his way into a third place finish. Justin Sanders made a rare Chico start and finished fourth using a 360 engine. Chase Majdic continued his strong season with a fifth place showing. With the win, Becker now passes Tim Kaeding for third on the all-time wins list at Silver Dollar Speedway. Forsberg picked up his second Tyler Wolf fast time award of the year by blistering the track with an 11.673. Sanders won the first heat race. Keith Bloom Jr. won heat race number two. A total of 16 cars attended the nights racing action.

It's hard to believe that Chico's Mark Abouzeid had not won a dirt modified main event at Silver Dollar Speedway since August 26, 2011. The 2009 and 2011 track champion had taken a year off and is also dabbling in road racing on pavement. But his winless streak ended tonight in dramatic fashion. Clinton Earl had led laps eight through 17 and seemed poised to get the win. However, with two laps to go Abouzeid made a spectacular move to take the lead away from Earl. The crowd was electrified watching these two driver's wheel and deal for the win. In breath-taking fashion Abouzeid was able to hold off Earl for the final two laps and finally get back into victory lane. Earl drove a solid race and ended up second. Todd Cooper came home in the third spot. Eleventh place starting Shane Devolder finished fourth. Jerry Bartlett came home in the fifth spot. Early leader Tyler Rodgers should be commended for doing so well in just his second start at Chico in a sport mod. Brian Cooper picked up the win in heat one while Earl grabbed the win in heat two. A total of 16 cars started the feature event.

Dan Dozier jumped out to the early lead during the 20-lap street stock main event. But by lap 13, seventh starting Phillip Shelby had moved into the second spot and was pressuring Dozier for the lead. On lap 15 Shelby saw an opening and made his move for the lead. Shelby went on to lead the final five laps and record the popular win. Brent Lawrence started fourth but near the end of the race moved around Dozier to finish second. Dozier ended up finishing in the third spot. Ninth place starting Shawn Smith came home in the fourth spot. Kevin Lesch finished fifth. Dozier won the first heat race. Veteran Gary Newman won the second heat race. A nice turnout of 17 drivers made the show.

Brian Compton won for the fourth consecutive time in 2016 at Silver Dollar Speedway in the hobby stock division. Compton also won the 2016 Enduro race at the Silver Dollar Fair. Five races, five wins for Compton at Chico. Needless to say, he's having an incredible year. Youngster Cameron Hammett was relentless all race long and battled his way to a second place finish. Brad Ray led for a bit, ran second for a bit before finishing in the third spot. Cy Cooper had been the early leader of the race but encountered some issues that regulated him back to a sixth place finish. Fourth went to Shannon Collins and Jeremy Langenderfer was fifth. Compton won the first heat. Kyle Allen won the second heat. A total of 12 hobby stocks entered the nights racing action.
