King Me! CHICO, CA (7-21-08) - The King of California Golden State 410-sprint car series comes to a close this Friday and Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. The 22-race schedule ends in dramatic fashion with high car counts expected and extra prizes for drivers and fans. On Saturday night, July 26, a new champion will be crowed the King of California on the front straight. The driver to beat is Chico's own Jonathan Allard. Allard won the championship in 2006. If Allard holds on to his lead he will become the series third multi-time champion since the series was conceived in 1987. Walker trails Allard by 31-points with two nights to go. Adding to the intrigue will be former two-time World of Outlaw driver Sammy Swindell. Swindell will pilot the Chico based Tom Rolfe Trucking #10. Other top entrants will be Brent, Bud and Tim Kaeding of San Jose, Mike Henry of Sacramento and Evan Suggs of Scott's Valley. You will also receive discounts on food and other coupons for use in the Casino. You can also call 530-899-9090 and ask about staying at The Lodge. Oxford Suites in Chico is offering the Silver Dollar Speedway rate. This is something they do all year, but wanted to remind our fans to call. Space is also limited with the fire fighters in town. Their direct number is 530-899-9090. I talked to our contact Sandra and she wanted to remind everyone about the free breakfast in the mornings and the close distance to the race track. Make sure if things are booked, to keep calling back during the week to check availability. I also spoke with the Almond Tree RV Park, located 3124 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95973. Their phone number is 530-899-1271. They only accept fully contained RV's, so no tent trailers or tents unfortunately.
