McDaniel Claims First
Modified Title With Third Place Finish
The 50th Anniversary edition of the
Gold Cup Race of Champions kicked off here Wednesday night with the seventh
Annual Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational for the Hoosier Tires Civil War Sprint
car Series. Whether it was his crowd raising pass for the lead or the post race
wing dance in victory lane, Auburn driver Andy Forsberg brought the likeness of
"Mr. Excitement" to the opening round of this four-day summer classic.
The Pacific Sprint Cars were joined Saturday by
the Silver Dollar Speedway Dirt Modifieds in their season finale known as the
"Dirt Modified Cup". In this event division point leader Ryan McDaniel
of Marysville led the first 14-laps until a collision in the second turn forced
him out of contention for a season ending victory.
