CHICO, CA (9-5-06) - The biggest race of the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series is on tap this week at Silver Dollar Speedway with the annual Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational. This special event opens the big week of the Gold Cup Race of Champions with the to 32 drivers in the Civil War point standings all vying to have a shot at the $3,000 victory.

For the first time in the history of this event, the Wingless Spec Sprints of the Joe Hunt Magnetos Series will join the program. This field will include the top 24 cars in the current point standings for this series in which accumulative points are earned by drivers competing at both Placerville and Silver Dollar Speedway throughout the year.

As the Civil War series heads into the most prestigious event of it’s annual season, former two time series champion and previous Pacific Sprint Cup winner Andy Forsberg of Auburn will headline the roster in the Wednesday night program. Forsberg has led the series standings since it started in April and is currently in a good position to add another series championship to his already full racing resume.

Entering the Wednesday night event, Forsberg holds a 14-point advantage over Colfax driver Colby Wiesz. So far this season both top runners have had consistent top finishes, Forsberg has two feature wins while Wiesz has one to his name. Forsberg has garnered a total of six top five finishes while Wiesz trails with four placements in the top five and both drivers are matched in top 10 finishes with seven each.

Sitting behind the two leaders is Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. DeCaires is the defending Civil War Series champion and is still in the hunt for a repeat title this season. Entering this event, DeCaires trails the lead position by 50-points with three top five finishes to his name in the eight events that have taken place so far. DeCaires will arrive at Silver Dollar Speedway on Wednesday with a great deal of momentum after winning the 2006 Placerville Speedway track championship this past Saturday night.

Siting in the fourth position in the standings is Korey Lovell of Yuba City. Lovell is having one of his best stints of his racing career in the series and trails the leader by 70-points. Jimmy Trulli of Placerville sits fifth overall and is 88-points out of the lead.

Positioned one notch out of the top five is Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park. Rollag was the series rookie of the year in 2004 and has been racing at Silver Dollar on a regular basis this season along with Lovell so both drivers should be geared up for action.

Calistoga resident Mike Benson is seventh in the point standings with former two time Placerville Speedway track champion Billy Wallace sitting in eighth. Chad Riolo of Roseville will enter this event ninth in the point standings with Brett Miller sitting in the tenth position. Miller, a resident of Chico, has had his share of success on his hometown track this year in his first year of racing at the age of 17 and will surely be among the top runners in this weeknight affair.

In addition to the top ten drivers in the standings, look for former Pacific Sprint Cup winner and series champion Roger Crockett to be among the entries. Last year’s winner Joey Magaruh is qualified to compete, currently sitting 15th in the points. Brad Sweet of Indiana won the last Civil War race to take place at Silver Dollar Speedway and is scheduled to return for this event as well as the Gold Cup competition on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Pit gate will open at 2 pm on Wednesday. Front gate will open at 5 pm. First race will start at 7:30 pm. Adult ticket price is $20.00 for the grandstands. Juniors are $12.00 with children $4.00. This race is general admission seating. More information can be found at www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com
