Rico Abreu Set to Compete in all Four Nights of Gold Cup
by Troy Hennig
-
CHICO, CA (8-30-17) - The 2016 Gold Cup Race of Champions winner, Rico Abreu, is not only returning to defend his Saturday night victory, but trying to sweep the week's racing action. Abreu has announced that he is competing in all four nights of this year's Gold Cup action led by the Wednesday night, September 6th, Civil War show. Abreu is detaching the wing for Thursday's USAC show and of course competing in both nights of World of Outlaw racing on Friday and Saturday. "I think we are up for the challenge," said Abreu. "I have always enjoyed racing Chico and am looking forward to seeing all the fans throughout the four nights of racing."

Abreu has been spectacular at Chico throughout the years. He has won the coveted Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial three times, including this year. Wins have come at the Silver Cup, Mini Gold Cup and Tyler Wolf Memorial. On April 27th, 2012, Abreu won his first career winged 360 main event at Silver Dollar Speedway. Moreover, he beat the World of Outlaws and won the Gold Cup Race of Champions last year.

A few other drivers have been mentioned to run all four nights led by Fremont's Shane Golobic. Golobic is a top tier driver when it comes to sprint cars and midgets. Golobic is one of the most diverse open-wheel drivers in all the nation. Paradise's Kyle Hirst, with seven wins in Chico this year, has been the most dominant local and is still searching for a Thursday night ride. Auburn's Andy Forsberg, 2017 track champion, is set for Wednesday and Friday and Saturday but still on the fence for Thursday's non-wing race.

Wednesday night, September 6th, the Civil War 360-Winged Sprint Car Series and C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour continue their charge towards crowning a yearlong champion. In fact, Wednesday night marks the finale for the Civil War Series. Reserved seating is $25.00 and general admission is as low as $10.00 a ticket. Thursday night, September 7th, the Amsoil USAC/CRA non-wing sprint cars and BCRA/USAC Midget Series will highlight traditional open wheel racing. Reserved seating is $30.00. General admission ticket is just $15.00. On both nights, kids 11 and under are admitted free with paying adult in the general admission seating area.

Friday night, September 8th reserved ticket is $45.00 while general admission is $30.00. The September 9th Saturday night finale is $55.00 for a reserved ticket and $40.00 for general admission.
