Nationwide Standout Kyle Larson Looks To Become Second Three-Peat Gold Cup Champion
written by PJ Petersen
CHICO, CA (8-28-13) - Young hot shoe, Kyle Larson, will look to become only the second driver ever to win the Gold Cup Race of Champions three straight years, a feat that only Steve Kinser has achieved, as he will fly in Saturday morning on the heels of his NASCAR Nationwide race in Richmond, VA on Friday night to pilot the potent Paul Silva owned, No. 57 Machine. Larson became the youngest winner of the event in 2011, and preceded to simply dominate the event in 2012 as he lapped up to seventh place, and he surely looks to be a heavy favorite come Saturday night.
Currently ranking eighth in NASCAR Nationwide standings with two top-two finishes and numerous Top-10's, 'Yung Money' has continued to prove he can drive anything. With the way Larson has progressed through the motorsports ranks over the last few years, this may in fact be the last time the 21-year-old driver is able to compete at this crown jewel event as there is serious speculation that he will be a full time competitor on the Sprint Cup Series in 2014. "Kyle Larson is a tremendous talent, and a huge fan favorite across the country," Silver Dollar Speedway Director of Communications, Troy Hennig said. "Along with many others, I am excited to watch him team up with Paul Silva in the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation/Kick Kids Cancer machine and go after another Gold Cup title. It's no secret he is on the fast track to the big time, and hopefully fans can enjoy him on dirt while he is still at it."
