Welcome to Gold Cup!

CHICO, CA (8-29-12) - It is with great pleasure we welcome you to the 59th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions. What a week we have planned for all of you. First and foremost is the racing. We have four nights of exciting sprint car racing planned. Wednesday night kicks off with the Civil War Invitational and USAC Western Classic Racing Series. Thursday night kicks off the World of Outlaws sprint car racing. We moved the Gold Cup back to three nights of WOO racing because it's what the fans wanted. Both Thursday and Friday night will offer qualifying, heat races, a dash and main events. On Saturday, points will be accumulated from the previous two nights and drivers will be starting based on their point totals. The Saturday night main event will be 40 laps with $20,000 on the line.
We are proud to offer the most Gold Cup non-racing activities that we have ever had. Thursday night is The Party at the Pavilion. There will be a live band playing called "Decades." A classic car show featuring race cars from yesteryears will be on display and hosted by the West Capitol Alumni Association. Also Mike Doyle will once again host Gold Cup Cinema to showcase all of the Gold Cup history on DVD. This is all FREE to attend. We will have $2.00 Hot Dogs and Beverages for sale.
Friday morning get your Golf Clubs and join us at the Clyde Lamar Gold Cup Golf Classic at Bidwell Park Golf Course. Be there by 8am to register. All the proceeds benefit the Knoxville Sprint Car Hall of Fame. If golf is not your thing, then cruise on over to the 2nd Annual BBQ and Open House presented by Vintage Hot Rod Design and Fabrication located right across from the race track at 631 Country Drive (corner of Fair St. and Country Drive). It's an easy car ride of bicycle stroll. It starts at 10 am and continues until 3pm. Free hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will coincide with custom hot rods and racing machines. They will have the world's fastest highboy roadster on display.
Friday night is the annual Joe Hunt Magnetos Chili Feed and Bikini Contest. Tickets for the event have been slashed to just $5.00 if you pre-buy them before the event. The World Famous Chili will be served along with crowning Miss Gold Cup Bikini winner.
Saturday morning at 11am everyone is invited to Kick it for Cancer. This is a kick ball game organized by the Jeff Gordon Foundation Kick-it for cancer. We have organized two teams of drivers that will compete against each other. During the game we will have a 50/50 raffle, numerous raffle prizes and a chance to get autographs from your favorite drivers. There is a $3 admission to the game. All proceeds go to the Kick-it organization. While this is going on, don't forget about the annual Racers Barbeque held at noon right by the pit gate. The BBQ is hosted by the Danielsen Co. and JP's Paint and Body Works. It is free to the fans of Gold Cup. Grab some ribs, salad, chili and drinks and then head back to the Kick Ball Game.Once again, thank you for coming and enjoy the biggest little sprint car race in the World.
